At Fern, we sustainably source lumber from local lumber mills, with the exception of Claro Walnut, which is sourced from sawmills in Northern California and Oregon. Below are the wood choices and finishes we offer. Please note that all options are not available for all pieces.

LEATHER & PARCHMENT

We source the finest vegetable-tanned bull hides from one of the top leather tanneries in the world, located in Pennsylvania. Because we source full hides, our pieces celebrate the natural life of the animal, thus the leather may include natural markings such as scarring, stretch and bug bites. We offer the following leather choices. The leather we use is saddle leather and not traditional upholstery leather; therefore, it will build a beautiful patina with continued use over time.

We are lucky to be located near one of the last premier tanneries focused on goat parchment in the world. For our stitched parchment lamp shades, parchment hides are hand-selected from goats raised in the Hudson Valley. Like leather, each hide is completely unique with its own character and varying transparency.
